These illustrations have been chosen from a late 18th century publication showcasing “the most beautiful and curious” flora and fauna from European and Chinese gardens. The subjects here include some of nature’s most eye-catchingly exquisite fauna against a background of Graphite (available as both Chalk Paint® and Annie Sloan Wall Paint).

The full title of the publication these drawings were featured is, “Collection precieuse et enluminée des fleurs les plus belles et les plus curieuses, qui se cultivent tant dans les jardins de la Chine, que dans ceux de l’Europe”. (Precious and illuminated collection of the most beautiful and curious flowers, which are cultivated as much in gardens of China as those of Europe). Whilst the artists are unknown, the author is Pierre Joseph Buchoz (1731-1807) a French medical doctor who also studied, taught and wrote on botanical and natural history subjects.

How to decoupage:

Apply Annie Sloan Image Medium to the surface with a brush. Stick the cut-out paper onto the glue, image face up. Apply approximately five further coats of Image Medium; each coat should be thinly and evenly applied and left to dry for 20-30 minutes before applying the next.

Wash brushes in water immediately after use.
